Founders

Tamara Leigh Murphy, CEO and President of Winerd Entertainment, LLC, has been in the food and wine industry for a decade. After graduating from Boston University and traveling extensively through Europe she decided a desk job was not in her future. Always interested in cooking and an avid restaurant-goer, she promptly enrolled in Culinary School in her native Chicago and then followed her dream to live in Manhattan by attending Pastry school there. After holding various chef and pastry chef positions in both New York City and Chicago, Tamara found herself drifting over into the wine world.

While later living in San Francisco she was further captivated by the wine culture of Northern California. She pursued a career in wine sales there and back home in Chicago. It was while selling wine in Chicago that she came to realize that there was a great need to make wine seem fun instead of scary to people. After a client approached her with an offer to pay her for a private wine class for friends at his home, she founded Wine Tutors which offers private wine tasting and appreciation classes in people's homes and offices. Due to overwhelming interest in these classes, Tamara realized that there was a need greater than she could accommodate with these interactive small wine tasting classes. It was out of this need that the Winerd® wine game was born.

Richard J. Murphy, Vice President and General Counsel of Winerd Entertainment, LLC, a lifelong board game enthusiast, is an attorney by profession. After graduating from Notre Dame Law School in 1997, he was hired as a litigator in Chicago. While there, he met and married Tamara.

Through Wine Tutors™ Richard noticed how many people were interested in wine yet were hesitant to pursue their interests out of fear or intimidation. While assisting Tamara in developing the Winerd® game to best reach the tremendous number of people interested in this topic, he was able to bring his legal expertise and game playing background to this endeavor.
